Katherine has over fifteen years’ experience working as an economist. Over this period, Katherine has advised a variety of clients on a range of regulatory, access to essential facilities, pricing and competition issues arising in the gas, electricity, water, transport, postal, telecommunications, mining and resources industries.

Katherine has a particular depth of experience in the gas and electricity sectors where she has prepared expert advice on a range of matters, including market design and operation, regulatory frameworks, revenue allowances, incentive schemes, commodity prices, infrastructure access prices and non-price terms and conditions. This experience has been called upon in a number of regulatory processes, commercial arbitrations, mergers, due diligence and market design processes.

Katherine’s experience in the gas industry has also been called upon in many  wholesale gas price arbitrations, pipeline pricing disputes, coverage applications, mergers, due diligence, regulatory, competition and market design processes. She has also assisted a number of competition, regulatory and review bodies with high profile reviews.

Prior to establishing Axiom Economics with Hayden, Katherine was a Senior Consultant at NERA Economic Consulting and an Associate Director at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

Hayden has over fifteen years’ experience advising clients on the competition and regulatory aspects of mergers, access to essential facilities, enforcement proceedings involving allegations of the misuse of market power and the economic regulation of network infrastructure service providers.

Hayden has advised on some of the most high-profile competition proceedings in recent times, including BHP Billiton’s attempts to merge/collaborate with Rio Tinto, FOXTEL’s acquisition of Austar and eBay’s proposal to tie the provision of its online marketplace with its online payment service, PayPal. Hayden’s expertise in competition matters is reflected in his inclusion in the Global Competition Review’s “International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists”.

In the regulatory sphere, Hayden has advised on a broad suite of matters across the energy, airport and shipping port, telecommunications, rail and road sectors. He has prepared expert advice on a wide range of matters, including the application and removal of regulatory price controls, asset valuation, efficient pricing and cost allocation.

Before establishing Axiom Economics with Katherine, Hayden was an Associate Director at the Competition Economists Group and a Senior Consultant at NERA Economic Consulting.
